It's the quintessential
New England city, set along a mighty river that once powered
numerous industrial mills. An international "shoe capital"
in the early 1900s, Haverhill, Massachusetts is now home to people
who are discovering that they, too, can make history here.

The natural beauty that
drew settlers here in colonial times still exists in Haverhill.
Along the river, eagles feather their nests, runners and hikers
find renewed strength, and boaters navigate the winding path
that leads to Newburyport and the Atlantic Ocean. Contemporary
residential estates share East Haverhill's Riverfront with farmhouses
that date back to the 1600s.
Businesses are relocating
in this northeastern Massachusetts city. Entrepreneur s are converting
the historic mills to other uses, including an exciting "Cyber-District"
that encompasses 8-10 city blocks and is poised to become the
Cyber City of the Northeast for computer-related companies.
More than 58,000 people
call Haverhill home and it's easy to see why. The friendly downtown
is a hub of activity, while a short drive transports you to Haverhill's
quiet, picturesque farms and lakes. In 1995, Money Magazine named
Greater Haverhill the best area t o live in the Northeast. The
balance between old and new, rural and urban is central to what
makes Haverhill a remarkable place to visit. |
